Affiliations: STEM Research Leadership Program
Project Leader: Ryan Davis
rdavis21@tamu.edu
Biomedical Engineering
Faculty Mentor: Akhilesh Gaharwar, Ph.D.
Meeting Times:
TBA
Team Size:
3
Open Spots: 1
Team Needs:
– Motivation and punctuality
– Ability to learn new skills and apply them independently
– Some background/interest in biomaterials research
Description:
The project seeks to develop a novel hydrogel system using electrospun fibers. We want to apply this hydrogel system as an injectable, 3D-printable biomaterial with applications in tissue engineering. Phase I will include the material synthesis and optimization of the hydrogel composition. Phase II will include in vitro characterization of the material properties. Finally, Phase III will include cellular assays, where we will investigate the performance of the technology in a specific application.
