Description:

With one of the highest energy densities, one major untapped and underutilized area of energy production is wave energy. Further research into this area is needed to determine the most efficient means possible of extracting that energy from the ocean. This research numerically investigates different shaped buoys, for a single point Wave Energy Converter (WEC), and their relation to energy production. The mechanical system of the WEC was compensated with a forced oscillator mechanism in the simulations. Three-dimensional simulations of the buoys in various wave profiles were modeled in OpenFOAM using the Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations |
