Special Opportunities:
Participants will have the option of writing an essay for possible publication in the Undergraduate Philosophy Journal as well as presenting a poster at the Aggie Research Expo.
Team Needs:
Participants do not need to belong to any particular religion or hold any particular religious or nonreligious beliefs. Participants need to commit to reading three books collectively. Participants will also need to commit to virtually attending a weekly zoom meeting with the team (Times TBD)
Description:
This project takes the form of a research intensive community of inquiry in which participants will be introduced to key concepts in the analytic epistemology of religion (the philosophical study of religious belief and knowledge). Participants will also collectively read three books by contemporary philosophers of religion addressing such topics as epistemic peer disagreement (i.e. how we should respond when we disagree with our peers’ religious beliefs), the issue of epistemic authority in morality and religion, the value of tradition, and how to understand religious (de)conversion
