Description:

How do we make our life more beautiful? Aesthetics is the study of art and beauty. However, in a more practical sense, how do we come to make our world and life more beautiful? In this summer project we will look at how we engage with material everyday such as our clothes, furniture, food, architecture etc. to produce a beautiful world. Specifically we will be looking at non-European (primarily Black Africana) traditions to see how they have come to appreciate aesthetic experiences in the daily things they produce and consume. What would researchers do? You will be helping identify the various resources available for the study of Aesthetics Collecting and organizing books and articles related to applied aesthetics Identify designers, architects, artists who produce beautiful things especially in the Black Africana traditions. You need to attend a weekly 1-hour group meeting with your, and small individual 2 hour meetings where you collaboratively work on generating the resource sheets If any of this sounds remotely interesting to you, contact Jyothis James at jyothis@tamu.edu to get involved!
