I welcome students from all backgrounds and all majors. This project will involve analyzing data right away. My preferred software program is STATA, so it would be great to have someone on the team who is already familiar with that program, however if you are proficient with another program/language (e.g., python, R, Java) and enjoy data analysis, you probably won’t have much trouble figuring out STATA. There will also be research into literature in psychology, communication, elite behavior, public opinion, etc. I will also design a survey experiment, so any students involved in this project will assist with that as well |
| Description | This project investigates the jump in non-responses in the 2016 American National Election Study following the election of Trump, and the corresponding change in the 2008 ANES following the election of Obama. The argument in this paper is that elites send signals about belonging that have an immediate impact on the way citizens engage with their government. I detect the effects of these signals first by utilizing observational data from the ANES, but will follow up with a survey experiment |
