Description:

Ongoing archaeological excavation and study in several towns in West Africa, especially Liberia and Ghana, have revealed the wide-reaching connections of this region in the history of the Transatlantic slave trade. This project will further analyze archaeological artifacts, like beads and ceramics, from several contexts in these nations. This analysis will tell us more about the people who made and used these objects. Student researchers will have the chance to: -collaborate closely with faculty and grad students in the African Anthropology and Archaeology Lab at TAMU to engage in archaeological analysis and curation; -document, photograph, draw, and analyze real archaeological artifacts and objects; -learn how to make archaeological maps and drawings in programs like ArcGIS; -read and analyze written documents about West African history. |
