Large Animal Clinical Sciences
Meeting Times:
TBA
Team Size:
7
Open Spots: 0
Special Opportunities:
Learning about equine/food animal respiratory health and pharmacology, learn about particle size analysis and cell culture assays, work alongside veterinary interns/residents on research projects, earn co-authorship on posters/publications
Team Needs:
Mandatory = Motivation to learn + work independently within diverse team to accomplish veterinary research. Optimal = Interest in aerosol medicine, biomedical engineering, pharmacology, equine science, veterinary research, cell culture models.
Description:
The Legere Laboratory for Equine & Veterinary Innovation (LLEVI) is centered around developing practical and innovative solutions for clinical problems in horses and other large animal patients while developing the next generation of trainees as clinician-scientists. Clinical and research interests are focused on the intersection of aerosol medicine, respiratory physiology and immunology, and neonatal medicine in horses and other large animal species. Specific research topics include characterizing & optimizing nebulizer therapies in horses & cattle; novel therapeutics for equine asthma; minimally invasive cardiopulmonary monitoring technologies for horses & livestock; and comparative clinical pharmacology and physiology within the respiratory tract. My goals for trainees are to identify their areas of strength and passion within biomedical and veterinary sciences, learn tangible and saleable skills, develop critical thinking in identifying and testing scientific questions, and delivering effective scientific communication to diverse audiences.
