Spring 2024: NASA Mars rover “Perseverance”: images and composition data analysis

Affiliations: STEM Research Leadership
Project Leader: Marion Nachon, Research Staff

mnachon@tamu.edu

Geology and Geophysics

Meeting Times:
TBA
Team Size:
8
Open Spots: 0
Special Opportunities:
The Team will learn about the NASA Mars rover “Perseverance” from the PI who is a science team member of the mission, and who also did her Ph.D working with data from the Curiosity rover.
Team Needs:
The analysis of the rover *images* will require using a ImageJ and/or a GIS system (such as ArcGIS, QGIS); prior experience with processing and analyzing scientific images or with a GIS is not required, but would help the research be more efficient. The analysis of the compositional data of martian rocks (from the SuperCam instrument) requires to be familiar with Python.
Capability or willingness to work well in and as a Team is strongly preferred. Willingness to learn a degree of autonomy when conducting Research is required. Willingness to constructively learn about scientific concepts, and techniques, with patience and care will help. A respectful attitude is expected.
