Description:
This large data collection project will collect data to document the evolution of the American news ecosystem from 2000-2021, mapping the location, audience, and ownership characteristics, staffing information as well as mergers, acquisitions, and closures of local news outlets across the United States during this time. We will also collect data on the emergence, proliferation, and changes among partisan cable news and digital media entities during this time. We will track these changes along with the content produced by several of these media outlets with the aim of understanding whether and how they relate to political attitudes and behaviors among the mass public and political elites.
