Description:
|
Seeking highly motivated students to research current (2010 to present) events where renewable energy projects (solar panel array) received notable community opposition about the planned installation, or the completed project in the state of Texas and Illinois. The areas of focus are projects that have been established near, or in, Environmental Justice (EJ) communities. Once projects have been identified, team members will then investigate if the community/neighborhood/area is considered an EJ community. The identification of the area(s) will be confirmed using and EPA tool, EJSCREEN. Project: Students will gather detailed information about the renewable energy project (company, type, size, year began/completed,opposition, etc). Community: EJ characteristics, involvement in the renewable energy development process (town hall/ city council meetings, public participation in the environmental decision making process, media presence, etc.)
