Affiliations: Soil and Crop Sciences department
Project Leader: Karina Morales
kymorales11@tamu.edu
Soil and Crop Sciences
Faculty Mentor: Dr. Michael Thomson, Ph.D.
Meeting Times:
W 11:30-12:30
Team Size:
4 (Team Full)
Open Spots: 0
Special Opportunities:
Work with CRISPR systems
Team Needs:
The majority of this work is wet lab based requiring either knowledge of or willingness to learn molecular biology techniques. Students joining this team must have an interest in working with and growing plants, genetics, and molecular lab work
Description:
The project will aim at editing genes related to days to flowering in rice. We will do this using the CRISPR/ Cas9 system. We hope that by knocking out these genes we will shorten days to flowering in rice. At this time we have designed our guide RNAs and are beginning the delivery process to develop mutants
