Participants have the opportunity to learn more about the field of tissue engineering with a strong emphasis in biomaterials, specifically hydrogels. They would gain hands-on experience on material synthesis and material characterization techniques. They’ll also gain a general insight into research which can be helpful for someone who is considering a career in research post-graduation or going to grad school. Participants will also gain team-based experience and an opportunity for co-authorship for future publications. |

Preferably seeking applicants majoring in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, material science and engineering, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, and biology. Students from other departments who are interested in the research project are still encouraged to reach out and apply. |

The goal is to minimize the high-inflammatory response commonly associated with foreign materials, potentially leading to enhanced healing by harnessing the body’s foreign body response and regenerative process. I’m currently working on creating immunomodulatory biomaterials by functionalizing gelatin hydrogels with anti-inflammatory compounds. |
