Special Opportunities:
Excellent opportunity to explore the field of education specifically literacy and skills needed to teach a student to read; co-authorship on publications, presentations, etc. For those interested, if a grant is awarded, full member of a research group
Team Needs:
academic writing skills, punctual (meeting deadlines, attending meetings, etc.), good communication skills, statistics knowledge (or willingness to learn); ability to meet weekly via Zoom for two hours (TBA dependent upon everyone’s schedule)
Description:
Along with faculty, the research team will develop surveys to assess educators’ (preservice, in-service, and teacher educators) attitudes, perceptions, and knowledge about African American English (dialect) and languages, such as Spanish. The research team will, also, recruit participants, analyze statistical data, and report findings via conference and journal article submissions. The focus of each data set will include areas of literacy, such as linguistics, spelling, and decoding
