Description:

Cardiovascular diseases, particularly stroke is a significant public health problem. The risk factors for stroke include non-modifiable factors such as age, sex, family history as well as modifiable lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, drug abuse, and adverse prenatal environment of an individual. Our studies focus on how prenatal alcohol exposure increases the risk for immediate and future cardiovascular complications leading to the developmental origin of health and disease (DOHaD). We use biochemical, molecular, and neurobehavioral assays to determine the role of prenatal alcohol exposure on stroke outcomes in a rat model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) |
