Soil and Crop Sciences
Faculty Mentor: David Stelly, Ph.D.
Meeting Times: W 1:00PM- 2:00PM
Team Size:

Special Opportunities:
Potential to attend local conferences, contribute to publications, gain unique hands-on experiences in a biology/agriculture lab
Team Needs:
If you have former molecular biology experience, that is a huge plus! If you have a background in molecular biology and/or botany or plant breeding, that is also excellent! But not requirements to join the team
Description This project focuses on using a wide array of plant breeding and molecular biology techniques to study cotton pollen. Cotton is a very important crop in the US and worldwide, representing several billions of dollars in value every year. Our lab uses field, greenhouse, genetic, genomic, cytological and computational methods to genetically improve cotton using genes from wild species. I’m a Ph. D. student in the genetics and genomics program working in Dr. David Stelly’s lab, looking for a team to help me with my dissertation work -focused on analyzing and modifying genetic recombination in cotton, which is essential to plant fertility, reproduction and our plant breeding efforts. My work also involves pollen genetics, genomics and biology, and breeding for interesting chromosome dynamics. If you join our team, you’ll get hands on experience with molecular biology, genetics, genomics, data management, greenhouse management, plant breeding, and much more! If you’re interested, send your resume and a little bit about why you’re interested in the Aggie Research Program to serinataluja@tamu.edu.
