This research paper seeks to understand the shared experiences of marginalized groups studying in the health science field (such as students of color, neurodivergent students, and LGBTQ+ students) as they are attending a predominantly white university. With the use of qualitative analysis and interviews, our goal is to explore what exactly a predominantly white institution is and why these environments can be harmful to students of color, neurodivergent students, and LGBTQ+ students. This research paper will also explore the impact mentorship can have on creating a more inclusive environment for marginalized students with the goal of mitigating mental health disparities and high levels of attrition to promote the retention of these students in health science so that we can push the health care system to greater health equity and diversity |
