Previous research has identified compounding cultural and structural factors that impact the likelihood of developing disordered eating habits. Of these factors, literature has noted ‘tracking’ of both exercise and intake to possibly increase likelihood of developing disordered eating habits. Other secondary literature indicates the need to consider the complex multi-dimensional impacts of boundaries and barriers to obtaining a healthy psychological relationship with caloric intake and fitness. This project considers how both nutritional and the culture of physio/nutrition education can be combined with reflexivity processes which could lead to an empowerment framework for individuals with a history of caloric restriction. In order to assess the development of this framework, we will provide participants with a fitness tracker and educational materials will be covered on critical nutrition, the culture of physio/nutrition, and reflexivity. We will collect qualitative data in the form of reflect/xive journal entries as well as quantitative data which covers basic demographics and baseline pre and post questions on nutrition and intake perceptions. A control group, which is provided a fitness tracker and reflexive educational materials, will be used for comparison. We hope this research will produce much needed knowledge on the complex nature of lived experiences, social structure, and nutritional interaction in regards to prevention and resilience to disordered eating habits |
