Race and Ethnicity Research Leadership Program
The Race & Ethnic Studies Research Leadership Program, supported by the Race & Ethnic Studies Institute, is a professional development program for graduate students, postdocs, and faculty who want to develop their leadership skills while increasing their research productivity. Instead of standard 1-on-1 research apprenticeship, research is performed by a diverse undergraduate research team led by a Team Leader preparing for the next stage of a research career. Research teams are productive because they further the Team Leader’s research by leveraging each undergraduate’s unique assets (talents, skills, perspectives, and experiences). Team Leaders meet once a month to identify and develop best practices that not only increase the competencies and motivation of their teams, but also increase research productivity. This program has a focus on race and ethnic studies, which provides an additional mechanism to develop research collaborations, prepare broader impacts sections of NSF grants, operate ethically in the context of Hispanic-Serving Institution programs at NSF, NEH, and elsewhere, and structure fellowship for training grants. As a RESI initiative in Partnership with ARP, we are particularly looking for Team Leaders working within the broader confines of our two major research initiatives:
- The Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Research Initiative has been formed in recognition of the opportunity we have to create transformative and translational research opportunities for students and faculty at Texas A&M University. We aim to be the hub for HSI-oriented research both in the College of Arts & Sciences and across the university.
- The Power & Inequality Research Initiative has been formed in recognition of the persistent and harmful effects of inequality throughout society. The research projects established within this initiative seek to identify, understand, and interrogate barriers to more equitable social relations and structures.
