Fall 2023: Novel Semantic Segmentation Algorithms for Hyperspectral Images

Affiliations: DeBakey Executive Research Leadership Program
Project Leader: Anthony Medellin
antmedellin@tamu.edu
Mechanical Engineering
Faculty Mentor: Reza Langari, Ph.D.
Meeting Times:
W 3-6 PM
Team Size:
8
Open Spots: 0
Special Opportunities:
Hands-on experience with hyperspectral camera, software development tools, co-author publications, and potential exposure to personnel at USARMY GVSC.
Team Needs:
Prior coding experience is preferred, but not required. Priority will be given to US Citizens. Our team is looking for individuals who are quick learners, able to work in a collaborative environment, and are critical thinkers.
Description:
Hyperspectral cameras have the ability to overcome many of the challenges that are currently being faced by the computer vision community, such as object tracking and 3D mapping. Recent advances in hardware allow the camera to be used for real-time tasks. This project aims at developing novel algorithms for feature extraction through the development of feature detectors and feature descriptors. These algorithms will be used to perform 3D reconstructions of objects and stitch images together with increased accuracy and robustness.
