We work in a variety of settings including dry/wet labs, greenhouses, fieldwork, as well as in collaboration with industrial livestock producers. Undergraduates will have the opportunity to work in any or all of these settings. Through projects they will hone skills in scientific literacy, experimental design, data collection, and analysis. Regular contributions by undergraduates can/have lead to publications, poster presentations, grants, scholarships, and development of intellectual property

The work we do is fast-paced and exciting! I am seeking highly motivated and curious students. ENTO major not required. Previous students have come from eclectic backgrounds and I encourage disadvantaged and underrepresented students to reach out. Relevant work experience can always substitute for research experience. As this is a BSL2 lab, interested applicants must complete safety trainings, and submit a short research proposal before joining the lab (I will help you with this) |

My research focuses on understanding the reproductive behavior of the black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens, within an ecological and evolutionary context so that industrial producers can rear these flies more efficiently. These flies are important for upcycling organic wastes into feed for dogs, cats, chickens, and fish.
