Spring 2022: Can your smart watch tell if you are sick?

Team Needs:
Interest to read literature, organize big data sets in excel, learn basic coding in command line. Basic understanding of genetics is welcome but not required
Description:
The advent of smart watches has made monitoring temperature, activity, and sleeping patterns simple and easy. Big questions remain to be answered on baseline conditions and individual variability for these parameters. Collaborative cross mice panel was created to mimic the diversity and complexity found in a human population. We have these parameters collected from the mice panel before and after infection with Salmonella and MRSA. We will use this data to answer two questions 1. Are there any genes that regulate the baseline conditions in humans? 2. Can the changes in these parameters used in detecting diseases?
