Special Opportunities:
The team members will get to learn about a NASA project for which the PI studies the rocks and sand from two planetary analogues (in New Mexico and Oregon), in order to prepare for future robotic and human space missions on Mars, the Moon etc. Depending on the interest and level of experience, this will be an opportunity to develop experience with scientific analyses relevant to Geosciences and Planetary Sciences (e.g. grain size, microscope, compositional analyses).
Team Needs:
Ability to be meticulous and organized is needed. Interest in Geosciences and/or Planetary Sciences is a plus. Capability or willingness to work well in and as a Team is strongly preferred. Willingness to learn a degree of autonomy when conducting Research is required. Willingness to constructively learn about scientific concepts, and techniques, with patience and care will help. A respectful attitude is expected. |
Description:
Get familiar with and participate in the analysis of rocks and sand samples from one or two sites that are considered planetary analogues: 1. Salt sand from White Sands (NM), 2. Volcanic samples from the Cascade Arc (OR). Depending on the interest and level of experience, analyses could include: grain size, microscope, composition. |
