Description:
The Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 is federal legislation that supports continued delivery of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP). However, it also requires each school district in the United States to develop a locally tailored wellness policy (LWP) that sets goals for improving their schools’ physical activity and nutrition environments. This project will examine the content and quality of Texas school districts’ (~1,200) LWPs. Team members will learn about the history behind LWPs, practice quantitative and qualitative methods for analyzing LWPs, and conduct analyses to begin to understand how LWPs differ by a district’s demographic characteristics, as well as how LWPs change over time
