Description:
Bacteria attach to tissue and cause disease. It is important for the bacteria to be able to sense a surface. In order to understand this mechanism, we want to build a model to predict the concentrations of endogenously-secreted chemicals experienced by motile bacteria. This will address whether surface attachment can merely be detected by chemical buildup near surfaces rather than its ability to physically sense a surface.
