Description:
Are little kids too little for big ideas and big questions? Is there a way for kids to learn without simply telling them what they need to know and testing them on it? Can children drive their own discussions and come to conclusions on issues that are important to them? This project has two main goals: 1) to introduce philosophy students as well as those interested in education and teaching to the theoretical foundations of Philosophy for Children (P4C); and 2) to provide hands on experience in P4C pedagogy by providing quality community service to local schools in the BCS area. Participants will be trained in methods of teaching P4C. Participants will learn the groundwork in the philosophy of childhood and pedagogy and will then help facilitate weekly P4C sessions at local pre-K, elementary, middle and/or high schools in the BCS area.
