Description:
Clostridoides difficile is a gram positive bacteria that is commonly found in the environment. It’s listed as a global health threat due to strains that can cause infection in people in hospital settings or who have undergone antibiotic treatment. The bacteria forms spores which is the main vehicle of transmission. These dormant structures can survive harsh environmental conditions allowing for the spread and transmission of the infection. These spores have an outermost layer known as the exosporium composed of a variety of proteins which are the site of initial interactions with the host. We aim at understanding the role of these proteins in the assembly of this layer and how they are regulated.
