Students in this team will be provided with an honorarium for their work. They will have the opportunity to learn and practice qualitative research skills, explore the field of higher education, and earn co-authorship on publications.
Team Needs:
Student must identify as a first-generation, low-income woman to be a part of this project. The student must have an interest in qualitative research.
Description:
The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of first-generation, low-income Black and Latine women at predominantly white institutions (PWIs). Specifically, we are interested in exploring the following questions: (a) What microaggressions do first-generation, low-income Women of Color encounter, if any, at PWIs? (b) What microaffirmations do first-generation, low-income Women of Color encounter, if any, at PWIs? (c) In what ways, if any, do microaffirmations help first-generation, low-income Women of Color overcome the microaggressions they experience at PWIs? We intend to use a qualitative case study methodology in this project.
