Description:
Buildings constitute a significant portion of the overall energy consumption in the United States, accounting for roughly 40% of the total energy use. The biggest share of this energy expenditure can be traced back to space conditioning, which is needed to ensure indoor thermal comfort. Given the pressing need to curb greenhouse gas emissions, improving the energy efficiency of buildings has emerged as a critical imperative. To this end, one of the most effective strategies involves the selection of building materials that minimize both heat gains and heat losses, both of which place a substantial burden on energy consumption. Against this backdrop, the present study aims to leverage building energy simulations in conjunction with Python scripting to offer building designers insights into the most effective materials for enhancing building energy efficiency.
