Description:
Previous studies have shown that students pursuing health and care professions, such as medical and veterinary fields, tend to have higher rates of anxiety, depression, and burnout in professional school3,5,6. The effects of extended remote learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are not well studied and may have disproportionately affected the mental wellness of these students4,7,8.
Extended remote learning may create alienation, a concept which involves the connection to yourself, to your community, and to your labor; causing social isolation, reduced career attachment, role distance, and reduced networking1,2,3. As such, the purpose of the present study is to investigate the impact of extended remote learning on the mental health and wellness of future health and care professionals currently enrolled at a southern university. A survey containing both quantitative and qualitative questions will be distributed to students through a bulk email system. Results will be consolidated in hopes to provide insight to health and care professors in the event that another online to in person instruction transition must be made in the future
