Team Needs:

Prior research experience is not a requirement. The student needs to show enthusiasm towards learning new things. Time commitment of at least 5-8 hours per week needed (excluding weekly update meetings). Sophomores/juniors preferred, since spending at least 2 semesters will be beneficial for both the student and the team in terms of achieving research goals. This project involves the design and synthesis of antibacterial materials using bioderived materials such as lignin and cellulose. These materials shall be used in combination with other nanomaterials such as mixed metal oxides. The major focus of the project will be 1) Utilizing naturally occurring and non-toxic materials as a viable alternative to more toxic existing antibacterial materials, 2) Improving the antibacterial performances of existing materials by combination with bioderived materials |
