Description:
This project aims to develop a database of published research (publications, bibliographies, resources) and images of boats in non-royal Egyptian tombs to create a formalized typology of boat types found within tomb art. This fall semester will focus on the Old and Middle Kingdoms. Secondary discussions regarding vessel variety, location, color, and function of these boat images and their place in the larger context of Egyptian culture will be addressed. This research, furthermore, will hopefully shed light on which tombs have not been documented or should be re-examined. Some publications may be in languages other than English. A proficiency in another language other than English is not required for this project; a background in French, German, or Arabic, however, could be beneficial
